Safranbolu is a town in Turkey and a province of Karabük. It is about 200 kilometers north of Ankara and about 100 kilometers south of the Black Sea coast. Safranbolu is located about 9 kilometers north of the city of Karabük. Safranbolu is a World Heritage site since December 17, 1998.
The old town of Safranbolu preserves many old buildings. There are 1008 registered historical artifacts. These are, 1 private museum, 25 mosques, 5 tombs, 8 historical fountains, 5 Turkish baths, 3 caravanserais, 1 historical clock tower, 1 sundial and hundreds of houses and mansions. Except these tumuluses and historical bridges.
The old town is located in a deep ravine in a fairly dry area in the rain shadow of the mountains. The new town is located on the plateau about 2 kilometers west of the old town.
Safranbolu was a center for growing saffron and a trading place. There are many old buildings in the town. There are old markets and mosque.
